Liverpool legend insists Mohamed Salah will 'definitely' leave club this summer

Ammon News - A former Liverpool star has insisted that Mohamed Salah will depart the club at the end of the season.

Salah was the subject of significant interest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad last summer, with the club reportedly making an offer worth in excess of £200m for the 31-year-old.

Despite being rebuffed by the Reds, the club are set to make another attempt to sign Salah once the transfer window repons with the league making signing him a priority as they look to continue their expansion.

In 2022 Salah put pen to paper for a new deal at Anfield worth £400,000-a-week to make him the highest-paid player in the club's history.

However, that deal will have just 12 months remaining when the transfer window reopens this summer, opening the door for a potential exit.

With a two-point lead on rivals Man City, Liverpool remain in on course to secure Premier League glory but Reds legend Mark Lawrenson insisted Salah's time at the club will soon come to an end regardless of their league placement.

'100% Mo Salah will definitely leave this summer.' Lawrenson told Paddy Power.

'No matter what happens this season, I think there was a deal last summer.'

'He'll go and play somewhere like Saudi Arabia and hopefully Liverpool get a massive fee and get a couple of players off the back of it.

'Salah will be a king in Saudi! He could've gone last summer and stormed into Jurgen Klopp's office and said "I want to go" but he's not done that.'

Klopp's side have been without their talisman in recent weeks, as he captained Egypt in their first two games at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Injury curtailed his tournament however, and the Pharaohs were eliminated at the round of 16 stage by DR Congo.

In the his absence, Klopp has been relying on the likes of Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota, with the latter having netted five in six Premier League games since returning from injury on Boxing Day.

'The lads who have come in know that they're fighting for their position which is great, as long as a couple of them don't get injured,' Lawrenson continued.

'You can see that Diogo Jota, Darwin Núñez and Luis Diaz like playing with each other and they all scored a goal against Burnley, even Nunez!

'When Mo Salah goes, and I think he will go, Liverpool might go and get a few more players for those positions.'

Having recovered from his injury picked up on international duty, Salah is expected to be involved when Liverpool travel to Brentford on Saturday.
