Ammon News - Samir Rifai, the former prime minister, delivered a speech at the 2023 Warwick Economic Summit, calling for increased support and care for Jordan and the Arab world, according to Ammon News.
He emphasized the Kingdom’s perseverance through major confrontations and challenges in defense of its values and the need for global assistance in addressing the region's economic and social struggles.
During his address, Rifai urged local societies and the world to assist 100 million Arab youth in achieving their aspirations and dreams, and called for an international Marshall Plan to uplift Jordan and the wider region.
He highlighted the importance of investing in the Arab youth, stating that the world needs to help them build their capabilities and fulfill their potential.
‘A model of democracy’
Despite the challenges that Jordan has faced, Rifai emphasized that the Kingdom, through the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, still carries the torch of democracy and enlightenment in the region.
He stated that Jordan seeks to establish a modern democratic model that can serve as an example for the region and underscored the world's responsibility to support it in achieving this goal.
Rifai drew attention to the massive debt burden that Jordan has accumulated as a result of the crises in the region, equivalent to 250 years of debt in just 10 years.
He also stated that Arab citizens compared the world's response to the war in Ukraine with that of the Palestinian issue, which has been largely ignored for decades. He also called for greater attention to be paid to the plight of the Palestinian people and for international support to address the root causes of the issue.
