Army thwarts drug smuggling attempt, hits smugglers

The Eastern Military Zone thwarted in coordination with the military security services and the Anti-Narcotics Department on Monday morning, an attempt to infiltrate and smuggle large quantities of narcotics coming from the Syrian territory.

The source said that "the Border Guard forces, in coordination with the military security services and the Anti-Narcotics Department, monitored an attempt by a group of smugglers to cross the border illegally from the Syrian lands to the Jordanian lands."

"A number of the smugglers were wounded and the others fled into the Syrian depth."

The source indicated that after intensifying searches and inspections of the area, (738) palms of hashish were found, and the seized items were transferred to the competent authorities.

The source stressed that the Jordanian Armed Forces continue to deal with all force and firmness, with any threat on the border fronts, and any endeavors intended to undermine and destabilize the security of the homeland and intimidate its citizens.
