PM visits site of collapsed building in Zarqa, checks on rescue efforts

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Omar Razzaz visited site of the residential building that collapsed in the eastern city Zarqa to check on rescue efforts as well as the search operation for two people trapped under the rubble.
The three-storey building collapsed in the Ghuwairiya area early Wednesday, killing three persons and injuring seven others who were transferred to Zarqa Public Hospital for treatment.
The prime minister, who was accompanied by Interior Minister Sameer Mubaideen, the director of the Civil Defense Department as well as the governor and mayor of Zarqa, was briefed about efforts exerted by the civil defense rescue cadres to remove the rubble in search for the trapped people.
The residential building was undergoing reconstruction, which is the most likely reason for the collapse.
Razzaz, accompanied by Minister of Health Mahmoud Al Shayyab also visited the injured at the Zarqa Public Hospital, where he was briefed on their health condition.
Director of the hospital, said the injured were in stable condition and that they will be discharged from hospital in the coming few hours.
The prime minister offered condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Razzaz said in a press statement that he decided to form a committee headed by the Zarqa governor to investigate the causes of the collapse.
The prime minister pledged to provide shelter and housing to residents of the building, saying "this is our responsibility as a government".
He also praised efforts that have been exerted by the public security and civil defense departments, Zarqa Municipality as well as medical staff at the Zarqa Public Hospital to provide medical attention to the injured.
