Ammon News - The Jordan Seismological Observatory (JSO), has recorded 104 earthquakes within the borders of the Kingdom and surrounding areas during the first four months of this year. The earthquakes also affected parts of Palestine, the Red Sea close to Jordan, and Syria.

According to JSO President Ghassan Sweidan, the majority of the recorded earthquakes were of a low magnitude, measuring between 4.5 and 1.7 on the Richter scale.

Speaking to the Jordan News Agency on Sunday, he noted that the observatory’s devices are capable of monitoring tremors and earthquakes very far away, from the far east of Australia to the far west of Canada.

The JSO, which operates under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, continuously monitors, records, and analyzes local, regional, and global seismic activity round-the-clock through 23 seismic monitoring stations spread throughout the Kingdom.
