Ammon News - The tobacco and cigarettes item included in the inflation rate reading in Jordan witnessed an increase by the end of the third quarter of 2024, by 3.2%, compared to an increase of 2.9% during the three quarters of 2023.
The Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ), in its monthly bulletin on monetary and banking developments, provided an explanation for the significant increase in the tobacco and cigarettes item rate, stating that it came in light of the approval of an amended system for the special tax system for the year 2024, which included raising the special tax on cigarettes and tobacco products of all kinds, effective from 9/12/2024.
Inflation in Jordan recorded a 1.6% increase at the end of the third quarter of 2024, compared to a 2.3% increase during the same period last year.
