Ammon News - The Jordanian national Greco-Roman wrestling team opened its campaign at the Arab Wrestling Championship with an impressive performance, securing five medals on the first day of the competition. The event is being held at the Palace of Sports in Menzah, Tunis, with the participation of eight countries: Jordan, Iraq, Algeria, Yemen, Palestine, Libya, Saudi Arabia, and Tunisia.
According to the Sports Media Federation, Jordan’s Sultan Dhamin (82 kg) and Moatasem Al-Kasasbeh (130 kg) earned gold medals, showcasing their dominance in their respective weight categories. Mustafa Al-Qadi (55 kg) and Suhaib Al-Hasanat (63 kg) secured silver medals, while Amro Saadeh (77 kg) added a bronze medal to the team’s tally. The athletes competed under the guidance of head coach Yahya Abu Tabeekh.
Injury forced Yahya Hussein (97 kg) to withdraw after completing two rounds, while teammates Ward Asha (67 kg) and Ahmad Dahshan (72 kg) fell short of reaching the podium.
The Jordanian freestyle wrestling team is set to make its mark in the championship today, led by coach Hani Al-Marafi. The team, comprising Suhaib Al-Marafi (61 kg), Ward Asha (65 kg), Zaid Mosleh (70 kg), Orts Shamil (74 kg), Arzo Shamil (79 kg), Abdullah Makoun (86 kg), Abdulkarim Abu Daij (92 kg), and Moatasem Al-Kasasbeh (125 kg), will aim to build on the Greco-Roman team’s success and boost Jordan’s medal count.
