Ammon News - Minister of Health Firas Hawari said that Jordan's health sector waged war against the Covid-19 epidemic, proving to be a model for health crisis management.

Marking WHO's announcement that Covid's global emergency is over, he added that Jordan's leadership and people should be proud of their performance during the pandemic, which prevented the Kingdom's health system from collapsing and maintained a reasonable death rate compared to other countries.

His remarks came during a 5-day workshop held by WHO's Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN), convening in Jordan with over 70 experts worldwide to discuss its strategy.

He pointed out that Jordan focused its efforts on building a national strategy that took into account the recovery plan, the health system's stability, and the medical personnel's rehabilitation and training.

Jordan avoided many Covid surges and was one of the first countries to secure and distribute vaccines to all people within Jordanian borders, added Hawari.

The minister congratulated GOARN on its new strategy, launched at a critical phase when the world is rethinking and seriously considering strengthening health systems and improving performance in the containment of and response to epidemics.

He also lauded EMPHNET's role in hosting this event in Jordan, which is part of its regional and global efforts that gave it a good reputation and helped implement many programs and joint projects.

GOARN's workshop was held 3 months after the launch of its strategy, which seeks to maintain strategic focus over the next four years to ensure preparedness and response to public health emergencies.

The 2022-2026 strategy's theme is implementing a community-focused approach, renewing commitment to investing in the global workforce in public health emergencies, and enhancing collaborative response.
