Japan seeks to expand cooperation with Jordan, Ambassador says

Ammon News - The Japanese Ambassador to Jordan, Jiro Okuyama, said during a celebration held by the Japanese Embassy in Amman, on the occasion of Japan's National Day, that Japan seeks to expand regional cooperation with Jordan to contribute to achieving peace and stability in the region.

A number of ministers, officials, diplomates, journalist and invitees attended the celebration.

The ambassador stressed the depth of the relations between Jordan and Japan, noting that the two countries will celebrate next year the 70th anniversary of the establishment of joint diplomatic relations.

Okuyama indicated that many international Japanese companies cover their business from their offices in Amman, especially in light of the agreement signed between Japan and Jordan to promote and protect investment, which entered into force since 2020.

"We are keen to expand the scope of cooperation with Jordan in a way that is in line with global goals such as green transformation, sustainable development, care for vulnerable groups, women's empowerment, and gender equality", he said.

On the Palestinian issue, the ambassador indicated that Japan has continued to support and assist UNRWA since 1953, as this year marks the 70th anniversary of its relations with UNRWA, stressing his country's support for the two-state solution on the basis of relevant UN Security Council resolutions and international law.

For her part, Minister of Culture Haifaa Najjar said during her participation in the embassy's celebration that there are great similarities between Jordan and Japan, as each of us represents a story of renaissance and work for peace.

Najjar praised the level of joint relations between the two sides and the development they are witnessing in various fields and at all levels.
