Ammon News - The Kingdom will be affected on Monday by a chilly and wet air mass associated with an air depression centered over the island of Cyprus, pushing temperatures sharply down and bringing heavy rain in various regions, forecasters said.
According to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD), the impact of the depression will deepen in the afternoon, bringing heavy downpours in the country’s northern and central areas, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail, and causing flash floods in valleys and lowlands.
Snow showers mixed with rain are also forecast in the late night hours over the high mountain peaks that are 1100 meters above sea level, including the Al-Sharah mountain range, the JMD added.
Winds will be southwesterly active, with gusts exceeding 90 kilometers per hour and blowing dust in the eastern and southern areas.
Additionally, the weather service issued alerts about flash floods, strong winds, slick roads, and poor horizontal visibility in the eastern and southern areas, and the highlands due to heavy dust storms and dense fog.
Toward Tuesday, the influence of the chilly and wet depression will intensify, triggering bitterly cold weather with torrential rain, thunder, and hail in the northern and central parts of the Kingdom, making flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas.
Heavy rain will spread to other areas in the evening, the JMD further said, noting that snow flurries are also forecast on highlands over 1100 meters above sea level. Westerly winds will be brisk with strong gusts exceeding 90km/h and causing dust storms in the Badia.
Temperatures in the capital Amman today will range between a high of 8 degrees Celsius and a low of 2C at night, while the port city of Aqaba will see a fair 19C, sliding to 9C at night.
