Ammon News - In continuation of last week meeting of His Majesty King Abdullah with representatives and leading figures from Aqaba, and upon royal directives, Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi on Saturday met with the city's representatives to find out their demands, proposals and needs.
Issawi, who is also head of the follow up committee for the implementation of Royal initiatives, said this meeting held under direct royal directives, to complete the discussion about priorities, demands and needs of the city of Aqaba.
His Majesty the King always stresses the importance of easing pressure on citizens and finding opportunities to reduce poverty and unemployment, especially by supporting small and medium projects and home projects for youth, women and associations, and facilitating the process of financing and licensing this type of project, Issawi said in the meeting, held in the Royal Hashemite Court.
He added that there is a royal interest in these projects, which will have a great impact on the development of Aqaba in various fields, which will reflect positively on providing jobs and improving the quality of services provided to the people of Aqaba and Jordanians in general.
He noted that several projects of royal initiatives were implemented during the past years, in various regions of Aqaba Governorate, covering many development and service sectors.
He pointed out that the focus will be, during the next stage, on productive and development projects that provide jobs for young people.
For their part, Aqaba representatives and leading figures stressed the importance of the King's visits to the city, which reflect His Majesty's keenness to continuously communicate with the sons and daughters of the region to check on their needs and demands and listen to them.
The speakers also highlighted a number of issues in Aqaba Governorate. They called for supporting the tourism and economic sector, improving the infrastructure, and providing job opportunities for young people, which would eradicate poverty and unemployment, in addition to activating the Youth and Entrepreneurship Commission to be an incubator for the rehabilitation and training of young people and owners of small projects.
They also called for establishing alternative energy projects that contribute to providing electricity and water for the governorate, and help reduce burdens on all segments of society and investments and enhance the tourism and investment attraction of the city, as a tourist hub.
They underlined the importance of supporting employment programs by focusing on implementing productive projects that provide job opportunities, especially for women and housewives, and facilitating their licensing by the the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority’s (ASEZA), in addition to establishing a permanent exhibition for industries and handicrafts.
They also stressed the importance of improving educational services, especially vocational and technical education, through the establishment of an industrial school, in addition to health services through the provision and creation of medical specializations in cooperation between the public and private sectors and the Royal Medical Services, lauding the royal directive to establish a club for the deaf.
They called for developing legislation regulating the ASEZA's work, devising a strategic plan to develop the region within a timetable and specific criteria, eliminating bureaucracy, and adopting a single window to ease the burden on investors, facilitate procedures and attract tourists.
They also called for establishing a branch of the Royal Hashemite Court's Public Services Office in Aqaba, as well as establishing a club for military retirees.
They called for establishing a comprehensive medical complex, in addition to improving the infrastructure and the culture landscape, establishing a palace of culture to support and develop the cultural movement in the city.
At the end of the meeting, Issawi said that all demands and needs that were addressed will be submitted to the King, and will be coordinated with competent authorities to be examined and followed-up according to priorities and capabilities and in line with the government's plans and programs and with follow-up from the Royal Hashemite Court.
For his part, ASEZA Chief Commissioner, Nayef Al Fayez, the development that the city is witnessing is under the follow-up and directives of His Majesty King Abdullah and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II.
"Aqaba has seen qualitative shift and great achievements over the past years that we seek to improve and achieve more," Al Fayez added.
He stressed that demands raised during this meeting, will be the focus of attention and review to achieve the required justice and development.
Adviser to His Majesty for Tribal Affairs Atef Hajaya, ASEZA Chief Commissioner Nayef Al Fayez, and Aqaba Governor Khaled Hajjaj attended the meeting.
