Ammon News - Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah Al Nahyan Tuesday held talks over the phone on developing bilateral ties and regional and international developments.

Safadi and Nahyan affirmed the continuation of coordination and consultation to resolve regional crises and uphold regional security and stability.

The top ministers noted the need to drum up efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting Mideast peace based on the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, highlighting the need for Israel to stop illegal measures that undermine peace.

The talks affirmed Jordan and the UAE's condemnation of the far-right Israeli minister Itamar Ben Gvir's storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque today in violation of international law.

They said Israel must stop violations of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, adding that the Mosque is a place of worship "purely for Muslims."

Al Nahyan noted the importance of Jordan's custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.

He affirmed the refusal of any prejudice to the role of the Department of Islamic Endowments in Jerusalem, affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf Islamic Affairs and Holy Places, as the only entity authorised to manage the affairs of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Safadi said Jordan would devote its capabilities to protecting the holy sites and upholding the historical and legal status quo in occupied Jerusalem.
