Ammon News - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Tuesday summoned the Israeli ambassador in Amman protest the Israeli national security minister's storming of Al Aqsa Mosque/ Al Haram Al Sharif this morning.
The official spokesman of the ministry Sinan Majali said that the ambassador was handed a letter of protest to "immediately" pass it to his government, demanding that Israel, the occupying power, adhere to its obligations under the international law and the international humanitarian law towards the occupied city of Jerusalem and its sanctities, especially the holy Al Aqsa Mosque, and refrain from any measures that prejudice the sanctity of the holy places, and end attempts to change the historical and legal status quo.
The protest letter reaffirmed that the blessed Al Aqsa Mosque/ Al Haram Al Sharif, with its entire area of 144 dunums, is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims.
It called on the Israeli government to end all measures to interfere in the affairs of the Al Aqsa Mosque/ Al Haram Al Sharif, reminding that the Jerusalem Waqf (religious endowments) Administration is the legal authority with the exclusive jurisdiction to manage all affairs of the mosque compound and organize access to it.
The letter warned that the ongoing violations and attacks on the holy sites would lead to further escalation as they represent a dangerous path and must stop immediately.
