Ammon News - Lawmakers met cabinet ministers Monday to discuss solutions to the transport sector, where bus and taxi unions agreed to call off a strike over a fuel price rise.

The meeting between Lower House Speaker Ahmad Safadi, members of the Permanent Office, heads of committees and parliamentary blocs as well as a number of government ministers agreed to form a joint government-parliament committee to discuss transport solutions and other proposals, including postponing bank loan payments and extending the Defense Order on the imprisonment of debtors.

The House said in a statement that it was following up on government solutions, adding that it will not tolerate actions that undermine national security and stability.

It urged concerned parties to find "appropriate solutions", while emphasizing the need to respect the rule of law, maintain national security and prevent attacks on roads, people and public and private property.

Safadi said that the meeting, part of a pledge by the government and parliament to work together to achieve the higher national interest, discussed finding "quick" solutions to the transport sector.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Local Administration Tawfiq Krishan told the meeting the government is open to demands by all sectors, and has since day one responded to freight sector demands, just as it did yesterday to those of the public transport sector and remained in contact with all concerned parties in the sector.
