Jordan re-elected to chair ADEGN

Ammon News - Jordan was re-elected to chair the Arab Division of Experts on Geographical Names (ADEGN) at the 9th Conference of Arab Experts in Geographical Names, which concluded on Wednesday in Muscat.
The conference, organized by the ADEGN Arab Division in collaboration with the Royal Jordanian Geographic Center (RJGC) and the National Survey Authority of Oman, was titled (Geospatial integration between name and location: importance and impact).
In a statement released by the RJGC on Thursday, participants in the conference recommended putting the unified Arab system for romanization into practice, documenting geographical names, creating specialized institutions and committees, and connecting geospatial data and geographical names.
In the closing session, Colonel Muammar Haddadin, director-general of the RJGC and head of the ADEGN, emphasized the importance of creating an environment where specialists from various national and regional bodies can exchange ideas and experiences, citing the role of geographical names in the integration of geographical information and sustainable development.
ADEGN is composed of Arab experts in geographical names who are assigned by their countries to collect, control, standardize and treat the names of places and natural features in their countries. It is affiliated with the Council of Arab Economic Unity / the League of Arab States and is part of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names( (UNGEGN).
