New Saudi rail line reaching Jordan border opens soon

 A new Saudi Arabian railway track reaching the Jordanian border will open in the coming days, which will enhance the movement of passengers, goods and vehicles between the two countries, Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Saleh Al-Jasser announced Monday.

He told a meeting organized by the Jordan Chamber of Commerce that Riyadh seeks to facilitate trade and transport, especially with Jordan, which has deep relations with the Saudi Kingdom.

The minister said that Jordan and Saudi Arabia are keen "to follow up on operational and legislative challenges," referring to legislative amendments in his country to raise the operational level according to the highest international standards in terms of safety, quality and environment.

Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yousef Shamali said Saudi Arabia is one of Jordan's key trading partners, with a trade volume of about JD4 billion, and investments, "based on the strategic relations between the two countries at all levels."

Jordan Chamber of Commerce President Nael Kabariti said the transport sector is a key pillar of economic development, as it contributes to the development of the other sectors, especially commerce, calling for unifying legislation regulating transport between the two countries.

He said the logistical problems the whole world suffers from require reaching understandings between the two countries to establish storage partnerships to raise the level of food security.

The meeting tackled ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and trade barriers related to land, sea and railway transport.
