Coronavirus statistics continue downward trend as government eases restrictions

Ammon News - After the government announced eased COVID-19 measures, the Ministry of Health Sunday said that the Kingdom recorded 28 coronavirus deaths and 3,171 infections in the 12th epidemiological week (19-25 March), bringing the death toll from the pandemic to 14,031 and the caseload to 1,692,485.

According to the ministry's daily brief, the positivity rate of about 48,944 PCR tests collected nationwide was at 6.48 per cent. The number of currently active cases stood at 2,175, with 211 admitted to hospitals during the week and 266 cases have been discharged. It said that the total number of confirmed cases that are now hospitalized reached 183.

According to the weekly report, the occupancy rate of isolation beds in the northern region was 3 per cent, intensive care beds was 18 per cent and ventilators 3 per cent.

The occupancy rate of isolation beds in the central region was at 4 percent, intensive care beds 13 per cent and ventilators 7 per cent, it said.

In the southern region, the occupancy rate of isolation beds was at 1 per cent, intensive care beds 2 per cent and ventilators 2 per cent, it said.

The ministry said that 6,081 Covid-19 patients have recovered, bringing the total number of expected recoveries by the end of the 14-day isolation period to 1,670,936.

On vaccinations, the ministry said that a total of 4,730,727 people have taken the first dose of Covid vaccines and the number of those who were double-jabbed climbed to 4,438,091.

Earlier, the government announced it will drop more Covid-19 restriction, which have been in place since more than two years, including cutting social distancing rules in places of worship and removing capacity cap in restaurants, cafes and wedding venues.
