FM: Jordan backs Lebanon to overcome crisis

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi met on Saturday with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati.

During the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the Doha Forum, Safadi reaffirmed the Kingdom's support of "brotherly Lebanon in its efforts to overcome the crisis it is facing."

Mikati valued the Kingdom's efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah II in support of Lebanon's stability, security, sovereignty and national institutions.

The meeting tackled bilateral relations in various fields, including projects to supply electricity to Lebanon from Jordan across Syria and Egyptian gas to Lebanon through Jordan and Syria.

Safadi welcomed the Lebanese Prime Minister's statement on his country's relations with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and the "positive Saudi response to it", noting the importance of a Kuwaiti initiative to end the rift between the GCC and Lebanon.

He expressed hope that Lebanese-GCC relations will return to normal to boost Arab solidarity and Arab causes and enhance support for Lebanon.

Mikati and Safadi discussed a number of regional and international issues of common interest.
