Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, on Saturday said that meeting refugees' needs and providing them with a decent life is a collective international responsibility and not the sole responsibility of host countries.

Speaking to a session held within the Doha Forum, Safadi warned of humanitarian, social and security impacts of the decline in international support for refugees.

In the session, attended by Greece Minister Of Migration And Asylum, Notis Mitarachi, High Commissioner, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, and President and CEO of Vital Voices Global Partnership, Alyse Nelson, Safadi Safadi stressed the need to continue supporting refugees and host countries, in order to meet refugees' rights to a decent life and education, noting that abandoning refugees represents regional and international future risks.

The foreign minister said that Jordan supports the international community's efforts to help Ukrainian refugees, but stressed that the outbreak of a new crisis does not mean that previous crises and their consequences have ended, which requires ongoing attention to victims of previous crises and meeting their needs.

Safadi lauded the international community's support to Jordan to help it bear the burden of Syrian refugee crisis, but pointed out that this support, which places additional responsibilities on the Kingdom has declined and the international community must remain a partner in shouldering them.

Safadi talked about Jordan's efforts to provide a decent life for more than one million Syrian refugees in Jordan, 10 per cent of whom live in refugee camps.

He said that resolving crises that cause asylum is essential in dealing with issues of refugees, who must have conditions that allow their voluntary and safe return to their country.

He added that reaching a political solution to the Syrian crisis is a priority that efforts must be combined to achieve, stressing the need to continue providing support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) so that it can continue to provide its vital services to Palestinian refugees in accordance with its UN mandate.
