FM meets Qatari counterpart in Doha

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, on Saturday met with Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

Safadi and Sheikh Mohammed discussed measures taken by the two countries to enhance cooperation in economic and investment fields, strengthen the deep-rooted ties, and activate outcomes of King Abdullah and Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani's summit, held in Doha in October.

The two ministers reaffirmed that bilateral ties are progressing at effective and fruitful steps towards broader horizons of cooperation, which will positively reflect on both countries.

Safadi thanked Sheikh Mohammed for the care provided to the Jordanian community in Qatar, which increased from about 58,000 in 2019 to about 70,000, as a result of the increase in jobs for Jordanians after Sheikh Tamim's initiative to provide 20,000 new jobs for Jordanian citizens.

Sheikh Mohammed stressed that his country will continue to explore investment opportunities in the Kingdom, and to invest in feasible projects, especially those that create jobs.

In the meeting, the two ministers underscored the firm position on the Palestinian cause as the first central cause, and underlined the need to find a real political horizon to achieve a just and comprehensive peace that ends the occupation and embodies the independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the pre-June 4, 1967 lines in accordance with international law and approved references.

Safadi and Sheikh Mohammed's meeting covered a number of regional and international issues and efforts to resolve crises in Syria, Yemen and Libya, the situation in Afghanistan, the Ukrainian crisis and its regional and international impacts.

They said that the international law, the United Nations' Charter and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states are a pillar of stability that must be respected and adhered to.

Al-Safadi congratulated Sheikh Mohammed on the success of the Doha Forum, which has become an international platform for diplomacy and dialogue.
