5,000 Jordanians have obtained work permits in Qatar: Ministry

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - A total of 5,000 Jordanians have obtained work permits in Qatar, as part of the Qatari Initiative to provide 10,000 job opportunities for Jordanians, a Ministry of Labor official announced on Monday.

In a meeting with the Qatar Chamber's Director General, Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi, the Ministry's Secretary General, Ziad Obaidat, said to date, 5,000 work permits have been issued, the holders of 2,000 of which have been obtained work visas, while the remaining 3,000 are being processed.

The meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the fields of labor as well as activating the Qatari private sector's role in attracting Jordanian labor in response to the Qatari initiative.

The meeting, which was attended by Jordanian officials and representatives of the Qatari Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs, also discussed ways to facilitate obtaining work visas for Jordanians to be relocated and work in Qatar.

Obaidat expressed Jordan's appreciation for the Qatari initiative to employ Jordanians, which reflects the deep rooted relations between the two countries, noting that steps toward implementing the initiative are on track.

Al Sharqi lauded as "close" the ties between the private sector in Qatar and its Jordanian counterpart and the Qatari private sector's positive interaction with Qatar's initiative to provide 10,000 jobs for Jordanians.

Al Sharqi said there is coordination between the Qatar Chamber, the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs and private sector's companies to overcome any challenges that may face the process of attracting the Jordanian labor.
