King receives UNRWA Commissioner General

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II on Monday received UNRWA's Commissioner General Pierre Krahenbuhl and discussed challenges faced by UNRWA, means to address the Agency financial problems to continue its basic services to more than five million Palestinian refugees registered with the UN, as well as UNRWA's efforts with donor countries to provide the necessary funding.

During the meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the second Laureates and Leaders for Children Summit 2018 at the Dead Sea, His Majesty expressed his appreciation for the role of UNRWA and the need to continue its humanitarian role towards the refugees, stressing the need for the international community to shoulder its responsibilities in providing adequate support to the Agency to continue providing its services to the refugees in the fields of education, health and relief.

Krahenbuhl commended Jordan's efforts, under the leadership of His Majesty the King II, along with regional and international parties, to help the Agency overcome the unprecedented challenges, praising the kingdom's efforts at the Extraordinary Ministerial Conference, which was recently held in Rome, to rally political and financial support for UNRWA, enhance its role, expand its donor base, and develop financial plans to face its fiscal deficit.

The meeting was attended by the Chief of the Royal Court, the Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, the King's Advisor, and Director of His Majesty's Office.
