Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, Atef Tarawneh, called on members of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to put pressure on decision-makers in their countries to provide aid and assistance to the refugee host countries, especially Jordan.
Speaking on behalf of the parliament's delegation at the 138th session of Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly held in Geneva, Switzerland, on Sunday, Tarawneh expressed hope that IPU members would stand up to racist laws approved by the Israeli Knesset and take appropriate steps against the occupation state.
He said Jordan, as a country of love, peace and moderation, has provided a safe haven to refugees, despite limited economic resources.
The house speaker noted that Palestine is still under occupation and Jordan has vital interests with regard to the final status issues, among which the refugees' right of return and compensation, stressing that peace is the Kingdom's choice.
On Syria, Tarawneh said Jordan is looking forward to resuming negotiations between the various Syrian parties, and building on the outcomes of the Geneva and Astana talks, warning that the continuation of fighting in Syria's Ghouta and other regions, would bring the situation back to square one.
He also voiced Jordan's support to Iraq and demanded more continued international cooperation and coordination in the fight against terrorism.
