Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II on Wednesday attended the Jordanian-Indian Business Forum, which was convened in New Delhi, with the participation of more than 300 businessmen and women, investors and corporate representatives from both countries.

The forum will discuss ways for enhancing cooperation between Jordan and India in a number of areas, especially investment, trade, industry, education, health, agriculture, mining, telecommunications, information technology, tourism and energy.

The Forum, which is held under the title "Promoting Investment, Trade and Partnerships between Jordan and India", is organized by the Jordan Chamber of Commerce and the Jordan Investment Commission in cooperation with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

His Majesty delivered a speech at the forum, in which he said Jordan is keen to expand economic cooperation and increase trade exchange with India.

In his speech, the King said he was delighted to be back in India, adding: "I see the synergies between our two nations being so important as well as the opportunities that both countries offer to each other." "On behalf of not only the Jordanian delegation but our colleagues from the public and the private sector from Jordan, some young students from our country that have joined us on this trip, we are truly delighted to be here, and the very warmth and hospitable welcome that has been given to us since our arrival," His Majesty said.

King Abdullah thanked the Federation of India’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Confederation of Indian Industry, the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India, and the government of India for making this trip so successful.

He indicated that Jordan is situated with the opportunity for not only the free trade agreements for North America, but Europe, the Middle East, and the new development of opening relationship with East Africa.

His Majesty told the meeting that Jordan is developing very much, not only in agri-business, but also in ICT sectors, saying: "I see a lot of opportunities for Jordanian companies to come here and work with their brothers and sisters in this country." The King voiced the hope that the opportunities for Indian men and women to come to Jordan have been facilitated.

"We have many challenges ahead of us, and it is more important that people of different cultures and different backgrounds energize each other and come closer together, and I believe that our two-day visit here in India will be the new start of a relationship between our two countries", King Abdullah said.
Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu underlined the importance of cementing Jordanian-Indian economic cooperation and the role both countries' governments can play in facilitating the two-way trade exchange and joint investments. He pointed out that the Indian government will work to upgrade economic relations with Jordan, noting that he will lead a delegation from the Indian business sector to the Kingdom soon.

On the sidelines of the forum, His Majesty King Abdullah II met with a number of business leaders and CEOs of major companies in India, discussing investment potential in Jordan. In this context, His Majesty emphasized that there is vast potential to expand and diversify the economic relations between Jordan and India, pointing out that India is Jordan's third largest trading partner.

The King highlighted the Kingdom's efforts to improve the business environment and stimulate investment, especially in areas of energy, mining, tourism, agriculture, information technology and filmmaking.

The meeting also discussed areas of cooperation in the renewable energy sector and energy storage solutions, as well as opportunities to benefit from the strategic location of the Kingdom, which has free trade agreements with many countries.

In turn, the Indian economic leaders, who attended the meeting, stressed that they are keen to benefit from Jordan's strategic position as a gateway to international markets, especially in light of free trade pacts that link the Kingdom with many countries.

They also expressed desire to establish partnerships with the private sector in Jordan, particularly in the fields of alternative energy, mining, pharmaceuticals, tourism and fertilizers.
