Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II on Monday received a U.S. Congress delegation, led by Senator Lindsey Graham, for a discussion on the strategic cooperation and partnership between Jordan and the United States of America and Middle East issues.
During the meeting attended by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, His Majesty the King voiced Jordan's appreciation for the support the U.S. provides to the Kingdom to implement development programs and address challenges arising from regional instability.
His Majesty referred to a memorandum of understanding the two countries signed last week for cooperation in the economic and military fields in the next five years.
King Abdullah underlined the important role of the United States in achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region. In this context, he emphasized the need to intensify regional and international efforts to re-launch Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations based on the two-state solution, which would guarantee the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital living in peace and security alongside Israel.
The meeting touched upon the role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). His Majesty stressed the need to support the UN body to continue providing educational, health and relief services to the refugees, given the fact that there are more than five million Palestinian refugees registered with the United Nations.
The meeting also tackled the Syrian crisis, and efforts to reach political solutions to it, as well as the war on terror.
