King receives Turkish FM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Monday, received Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu for a discussion of bilateral ties and regional developments.

In a meeting held at the Al Husseiniya Palace, King Abdullah underlined the importance of promoting relations between the two countries to the highest levels and continuing coordination and consultation, to serve the Islamic nation's causes and enhance regional security and stability.

During the meeting, His Majesty conveyed his greetings to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The meeting dealt with ways to expand economic and trade cooperation between Jordan and Turkey to achieve their common interests. Cavusoglu said the Turkish government is reviewing a free trade agreement between the two countries to facilitate the entry of Jordanian goods to the Turkish market.

The Turkish minister also noted that his country is looking forward to using the southern port of Aqaba as a regional center for the entry of Turkish exports to various markets, especially in Africa.

The meeting also tackled challenges the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem are facing and efforts exerted by Jordan to protect these sites, as part of the Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem's holy sites.

The Turkish Foreign Minister reiterated his country's support and appreciation or Jordan's efforts under His Majesty's leadership in this regard.

The meeting addressed developments in Syria, stressing the importance of reaching a political solution to the crisis that preserves the country's unity and territorial integrity, through the Geneva process.
