Jordan's envoy delivers speech on King's behalf at UN dialogue

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah II, Jordan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Sima Bahouth, on Tuesday, participated in a high-level dialogue entitled:"Building Sustainable Peace for All: Synergies between the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustaining Peace Agenda."

Bahouth delivered a speech on the belaf of His Majesty at the meeting, which was attended by United Nations Secretary General, the President of the General Assembly, the President of the Security Council, President of the UN Economic and Social Council and a number of Foreign Ministers of Member States.

In the speech, King Abdullah said conflicts in the region have displaced millions from their homes, and they are looking for help to find ways to maintain their livelihoods, they need shelter, education, jobs, services and hope, and host countries need support in order to fulfill these needs, stressing the need to work together to achieve and preserve peace.

The King also stressed the need for comprehensive political solutions to build the future.

As for the Syrian crisis, His Majesty said every effort must be made to support a political process led by Syria that involves all components of society, ensures Syria's unity, ends the suffering of its people and give them hope.

On Iraq, the King said the Iraqi army and international coalition forces' recent gains against terrorists reinforced optimism, expressing hope that reconciliation efforts could lead to the establishment of a strong and unified Iraq.

His Majesty said the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is the core issue in the region, stressing that peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis is vital to achieve peace and overall development in the region.

The speech also tackled the issues of Jerusalem, regional peace, social and economic challenges, youth, women, interfaith dialogue and refugees.
