Ammon News - The number of electric vehicles in Jordan increased by 404% in 2023 to reach 85.5 thousand vehicles, compared to 16.975 thousand vehicles in 2022, according to the latest official data available on the licensed and registered electric vehicle sector in Jordan.
According to the data obtained by Ammon, the number of licensed and registered electric vehicles in Jordan has witnessed a significant increase over 8 consecutive years, reaching nearly 1,000 vehicles in 2015, rising to 1,274 vehicles in 2016, and nearly 7,755 vehicles in 2017.
The significant increase in the number of licensed electric vehicles came in 2022, as their number increased by more than 10.6 thousand vehicles in one year, reaching 16,975 thousand vehicles, compared to 6.4 thousand licensed and registered electric vehicles in 2021.
The Energy Authority announced the existence of 107 licensed and operating electric vehicle charging stations in various regions, including 85 public stations and 22 private stations, in addition to 611 charging stations that have obtained a construction permit and are awaiting completion of licensing procedures.
Last July, the government began implementing a time-based electricity tariff on several sectors, including the electric vehicle charging sector.
In the same context, the number of licenses granted by the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Authority for public and private charging stations increased in 2023 to reach 286 licenses, compared to 16 licenses granted in 2022, 42 licenses granted in 2021, and 23 licenses in 2020. As for the approvals issued by the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Authority to install electric vehicle charging meters, they witnessed an increase during the past year, by 61.5% to reach 1,568 approvals, compared to 973 approvals recorded in 2022.
