Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The United States will send another 200 troops to Syria to help an alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters seize the ISIS-stronghold of Raqqa, US defense secretary Ashton Carter has said.
“I can tell you today that the United States will deploy approximately 200 additional US forces in Syria,” Carter told policymakers during the Manama Dialogue in Bahrain on Saturday.
They will join 300 US special forces present in Syria to assist US-backed Kurdish-Arab troops who began their offensive on Raqqa in recent weeks.
That operation comes as US-backed Iraqi troops attempt to retake Mosul from ISIS in Iraq.
The two cities are the last major urban centers under ISIS control.
