King stresses need for calm in Gaza

Ammon News - Amman (Petra) His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday stressed the need to bring about calm in the Gaza Strip and warned that the continued escalation will further increase the already-difficult humanitarian conditions the Palestinian people is going through.

During a telephone conversation with Egyptian President Mohammad Morsi, the King urged the international community to intensify its efforts to stop all forms of escalation, stressing that the continuation of escalation would fuel tension in the Middle East and affect its security and stability.

His Majesty affirmed that Jordan will continue to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in Gaza through intensifying contacts with various parties, promoting the capabilities of the Jordanian military hospital in the coastal territory to deal with the different needs of the Palestinian people there, and dispatching more humanitarian convoys to the besieged enclave.

The King and Morsi agreed to maintain coordination and consultation with various regional and international parties to stop the military escalation in Gaza.

Earlier, the King warned in a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, of the danger of the deteriorating situation in Gaza and the serious implications on the security and stability of the region.

His Majesty stressed, during the call, the need to stop all forms of escalation and to open the way for diplomatic efforts of all parties to reach calm, and build on them to support peace efforts in the region.
