Ammon News - A Senate delegation participated in the consultative coordination meeting of the Arab Group at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on the sidelines of the 149th IPU Assembly in Geneva.
Discussions centered around the emergency item submitted by Palestine and Algeria regarding the implementation of a UN General Assembly resolution concerning Israeli accountability and legislative measures, said a Senate Statement on Tuesday.
The meeting addressed UN General Assembly Resolution "24/10A/RES/ES," which requests that Israel’s parliament provide monthly reports on its legislative actions to implement the resolution, with consequences for non-compliance.
Senator Mahasen Jaghoub, head of the Senate's Education Committee, expressed grave concerns at the 81st IPU Middle East Questions meeting regarding the worsening situation in the region. She emphasized that global silence on Israel's genocide against the Palestinian people undermines respect for international law.
Jaghoub underscored that peace and security in the region are unattainable without recognizing Palestinians' right to an independent state. She also highlighted the role of the Hashemite guardianship in safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, preserving its Arab identity, and resisting Israeli Judaization efforts.
Further, the Education Committee called for member states to exert pressure to ensure the enforcement of UN resolutions, advocating for an end to the occupation and the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders. Jordan’s stance, rejecting aggression from Israel and its supporters, including the U.S. and EU, was reinforced during the meeting. Petra
