Ammon News - According to Bassam Al-Maharmeh, the head of the National Cyber Security Center, the annual losses to the national economy from cyber attacks reach approximately 150 million dinars.
Al-Maharmeh stated in a dialogue session about the cyber security situation in Jordan that the losses would have been significantly higher if a national body focused on cyber security had not existed.
The leader of the Economic Forum, Mazen Al-Hamoud, emphasized that the focus on cyber security stems from its ability to strengthen Jordan's status as an investment hub and boosts the private sector's trust in the business landscape.
He cited the International Monetary Fund's report from 2023, which stated that the global financial sector has faced over 20,000 cyber attacks in the last twenty years, leading to direct losses that surpassed $12 billion. He highlighted that the substantial losses from cyber incidents have increased fourfold since 2017, with harmful cyber activities hitting their peak levels in 2023.
