Ammon News - Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, CEO of the Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority (CARC), Captain Haitham Misto, said that five international airlines have temporarily suspended their flights to the region, including Jordan, due to regional tensions in the Middle East.
The airlines that have suspended their flights to Amman are: the German airline Lufthansa, which has suspended its flights until August 26, United Airlines, until September 15, Austrian Airlines, until August 26, the Greek national carrier Aegean Airlines, for an indefinite period, and the Spanish airline Vueling, until October 31, Misto told Al-Mamlaka on Wednesday.
Misto noted that the temporary suspension of flights comes as a precautionary measure by the companies, not only for Jordan, but also for most countries in the Eastern Mediterranean.
This suspension does not constitute more than 3% of the total operating volume of airlines to and from Jordan, he pointed out, adding that the suspension comes for airlines that operate their flights to Amman at a low frequency.
He continued:"The countries from which these companies operate have an alternative from other airlines, meaning that the direct connection between the Kingdom and these countries has not been affected."
Caution over the expansion of the conflict in the Middle East has prompted international airlines to suspend flights to several Middle Eastern countries, including Jordan.
