Ammon News - Jordan recorded a trade balance surplus of JD346 million with the United States during the first five months of this year.
According to data released by the Department of Statistics on Monday, the total trade exchanges between Jordan and the United States amounted to approximately JD1.384 billion by the end of May, compared to JD1.382 billion for the same period last year.
National exports to the American market experienced a 10.9 percent growth, reaching JD865 million by the end of May 2024, compared to JD780 million during the same period in 2023.
Conversely, Jordan's imports from the United States declined by 13.8 percent, recording JD519 million until the end of May, down from JD602 million for the corresponding period last year.
Jordanian exports to the US predominantly include clothing and accessories, jewelry, fertilizers, pharmaceutical preparations, information technology services, food and live animal products, as well as engineering industries.
The Kingdom's imports from the US consist mainly of metal products, transportation equipment, machinery, electrical appliances, grains, chemical products, medical devices, food industry products, wood filler, animal products, furniture, iron products, used clothing, vegetable oils and fats, wood, and wood products.
The free trade agreement between Jordan and the United States, signed in October 2000 and fully effective as of January 2010, has significantly boosted bilateral trade, increasing it by an estimated 800 percent. Petra
