Ammon News - The Israeli occupation may agree to extend the water agreement with Jordan for an additional year, Ynet newspaper said on Monday.
"Israel was very hesitant on this issue in light of the inflammatory statements by senior Jordanian officials regarding the war in Gaza," according to the newspaper.
Ynet and "Yediot Ahronoth" learned that Israeli Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Eli Cohen is expected to comply with Jordan's request and extend its increased water agreement with Israel for another year.
"To this day, Israel has been very confused on the issue , since Jordanian officials - including Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi - have continued to incite against Israel regarding the war in the Gaza Strip . On the other hand, the Americans pressured Israel to comply with the request. The original Jordanian request was to extend the water agreement by another five years, but after Israel delayed giving an answer, the Jordanians reduced the request and asked for an extension of only one year," the newspaper added.
Minister of Government Communications Muhannad Mubaideen, said on March 7 about the agreement to purchase water from the Israeli occupation, which will expire this April, "We buy a quantity and pay for it."
He also pointed out that "any other statements issued by the Israeli side in this regard, Jordan is not concerned with them."
