FM on allowing increase in Jordanian aid to Gaza: 'We will wait and see'

Ammon News - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, commented on the Israeli occupation’s announcement of increased aid to Gaza via Jordan.

Safadi said during an interview on BBC World, to talk about developments in the situation in Gaza, that Jordan had heard these promises previously, “and we will not be sure of their authenticity until we see them on the ground.”

"We will wait and see if Israel will actually take any action to allow more aid in and also allow humanitarian agencies into Gaza, because without the United Nations being there in those operations, and without NGOs being able to operate without the threat of bombing and killing, the issue of bombing and killing will remain, and the distribution of aid will also be a big problem," he added.

During the past 6 months, only an average of 100 trucks entered Gaza per day, compared to what the United Nations estimated at 800 trucks required per day, and therefore the amount of humanitarian aid entering Gaza is completely insignificant, Safadi stated.

"So what is needing now is opening all land crossings into Gaza and allowing the UN and other NGOs full access and full ability to receive the aid and to distribute it," he noted.

"We hope that Biden's latest warning to Israel will be a turning point, because for the last 6 months we have seen nothing, but an Israeli government that is defying the will of the whole international community proceeding with the massacre that produce nothing but death and suffering and destructions to the Palestinians," the Minister said.

Safadi continued: "6 months into that massacre the world has to act more selectively to ensure that Israel complies with the international law and international humanitarian law, not only stop killing Palestinians through this war but also stop the starvation which is claiming more lives day in day out."

"For the past 6 months Israel has ignored every call by all members of the International community to stop violating the international law and stop this war , we have seen new UN security council's resolutions, we have seen two sets of provisional measures by the ICJ and Israel has done nothing, so the Israeli government has to face consequences," the Minister indicated, confirming that " Instead of sending weapons to Israel, I think the world should be sending aid and political delegations to make sure that we get over this catastrophe."
