Ammon News - For the second day in a row, the Lower House Tuesday debated the draft state budget law for the year 2023 during a session chaired by Speaker Ahmad Safadi and attended by Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh and cabinet ministers.

Sixteen lawmakers addressed the chamber during a morning session, bringing the total number to 38, plus six parliamentary blocs, in the marathon discussion.

They assailed the bill for the fiscal deficit and high debt service, being short on plans, programs and a strategy to spur growth and ease the burdens on citizens, who are facing economic hardship, and the policy of raising interest on loans.

They called on the government to "realize the gravity of the current stage" and economic and political challenges posed to Jordan, support the education, health, tourism, agriculture, water and industrial sectors and the infrastructure, attract foreign capital and protect local investments, as well as fight corruption and curb misspending.

The lawmakers presented the demands of their constituencies, including job opportunities for youth, support of farms, infrastructure projects and municipalities and building schools and health facilities.
