Ammon News - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, on Sunday praised the role of the Hashemite Custodianship in preserving Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Abbas thanked His Majesty King Abdullah II, during the conference in support of Jerusalem which held in Cairo, for his stances and support, his government and the Jordanian people for the Palestinian people in defense and support for the just Palestinian cause.

He said that the work of the Conference on Supporting Jerusalem "Resilience and Development" will be at the level of the challenges facing Jerusalem, as we are currently facing the worst forms of persecution and aggression, specifically in the occupied city of Jerusalem.

"A conference dedicated to the city of Jerusalem will be at the level of this great issue that it deals with, and in accordance with the grave challenges that our holy capital faces as a result of the continuous Israeli occupation of it and the land of the State of Palestine for 55 years," according to Abbas.

He pointed out that the plans and procedures implemented by the Israeli occupation target the history of the city of Jerusalem, its sanctities, its people, and its Palestinian, Arab, Islamic and Christian civilizational identity.
