Ammon News - The Directorate of Communicable Diseases at the Ministry of Health on Wednesday held, in cooperation with the Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET), a training workshop entitled "Activating Surveillance, Epidemiological Updates and Reporting Mechanism for Communicable Diseases and Diarrhea".

The workshop, which coincides with the preparation of the weekly communicable diseases report, aims to ensure continued joint cooperation by Ministry of Health's surveillance departments' heads and revive surveillance by continuous reporting of communicable diseases and diarrhea, in a bid to ensure more impartiality and dodge zero-case reports in health centers.

During the workshop, director of the ministry's Communicable Diseases Department, Dr. Mohammad Hawarat, stressed the importance of the disease surveillance system as the first line of defense to prevent incidence and spread of infectious diseases.

This step should become an early warning system to provide an opportunity for the ministry's surveillance workers to deal with all emerging health developments in the Kingdom, he added.

For his part, EMPHNET Director, Dr. Mohannad Nsour, said the network is working "continuously" to support Jordanian ministry's efforts to raise worker skills and enhance their capabilities in improving early detection procedures in place worldwide, which could negatively affect Jordanian society.

EMPHNET continues the process of strengthening surveillance process in the Kingdom's governorates and various field loacations to report and curb spread of epidemic diseases, Nsour added.
