Aqaba Port staff end strike after toxic gas leak

Ammon News - Aqaba Company for Ports Operation and Management staff Monday returned to work in all docks and yards after ending a strike following last week's toxic gas leak, the head of the Ports Workers' Union Ahmed Amayreh announced.

The union decided to halt the work stoppage, calling on all employees to return to theor jobs after reaching understanding with the newly-appointed director general, Amayreh said in a press release.

He said that it was agreed at a meeting between the union members and the director general that all workers return to work in all the port's facilities after some of their demands were met.

Under the agreement, more safety measures will be provided at facilities and cargo handling yards, a 30-dinar bonus for the smell of released gases from the leak as well as the disbursemen of 3% of the company’s annual profits. However, other claims were shelved.
