Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Ayman Safadi on Saturday conveyed the greetings of His Majesty King Abdullah to Lebanon's President, Michel Aoun, and His Majesty's keenness to consolidate historical and brotherly ties between the two countries, and Jordan's full support for the Lebanese people.
Prior to the consultive meeting of the Council of the Arab League at the ministerial level, the Lebanese President received Safadi and Arab foreign ministers hosted by Lebanon on Saturday, Aoun reaffirmed his pride in the distinguished relations between Jordan and Lebanon, and sent his greetings to His Majesty the King.
For his part, Safadi said that Jordan supports Lebanon's efforts to overcome its difficult circumstances in order to recover and regain its key role, stressing that protecting Lebanon and its stability is a necessity for the security and stability of the region.
He pointed out that holding of the consultative meeting in Beirut is a clear message of support for Lebanon.
Safadi and Arab foreign ministers who participated in the consultative meeting met with Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri. The meeting discussed enhancing cooperation between Arab countries and Lebanon, and strengthening mechanisms of joint Arab action. The meeting also highlighted regional and international developments.
Safadi had participated in the meeting, which was hosted by Lebanon, chair the current session of the Council.
In his speech during the meeting, Safadi stressed the importance of systematic and institutional Arab action in approaching common challenges, and the need to activate the collective Arab role in resolving crises facing the Arab world to build a secure future that the peoples of the region seek, urging Arab countries to assume key role in addressing their issues.
During the meeting, ministers had an in-depth discussion of regional and international issues, foremost of which was the Palestinian issue, efforts to resolve the Syrian and Yemeni crises, the situation in Libya, support for Iraq and its stability, support and protection of Lebanon and its stability, the Ukrainian crisis and its impacts on food and energy security, and the fight against terrorism.
The meeting also covered preparations for holding the next Arab summit in Algeria, opportunities for achieving development, institutionalizing Arab cooperation in food security, pharmaceutical security and environmental protection, and the development of scientific institutions and other vital sectors.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Safadi held talks with a number of his counterparts, on ways to enhance bilateral relations, latest regional and international developments, efforts to resolve crises in the region and ways to enhance joint Arab action to face challenges.
Lebanon is currently chairing the 157th session of the Council of the Arab League at the ministerial level.
