Ammon News - Water Ministry Secretary-General Jihad Mahamid and Hungarian ambassador Attila Kali on Tuesday discussed bilteral cooperation in the field of water resources as part of a memorandum of understanding signed by the two countries.
Mahamid stressed the ministry's commitment to benefiting from Hungarian expertise, noting that the water sector is keen on modifying its services and investment policies to raise capacities in various institutions.
The ministry, he said, began drafting a national strategy to provide additional unconventional water sources, expand sewage networks and treat wastewater.
In light of the decrease in groundwater, the ministry saw the Aqaba-Amman desalination and water transport project is a strategy venture to meet rising water demand, Mahamid pointed out.
He said the ministry focuses on conducting long-term plans to meet water needs, mainly during crises, and reduce energy costs, commending Hungarian support and saying he looked forward to closer cooperation.
For his part, Kali underscored Hungary's commitment to boosting cooperation with the Kingdom in various sectors, namely water and treated water reuse programs, lauding the water sector's efforts in light of the pressures Jordan is facing in this field.
