2022 Execution Law comes into force; authorities starts releasing debtors

Ammon News - The 2022 Execution Law has come into force, as authorities started releasing a number of debtors who spent 60 days in prison per debt according to the amendments made to the new law, Judicial Council Spokesperson Judge Waleed Kanakriah told Petra on Friday.

The new law stipulates that debtors who fail to repay shall face a penalty of up to 60 days in prison per debt, with no more than 120 days per year.

The release, the spokesperson said, is taking place in cooperation with the Public Security Department (PSD).

Several amendments were made to the Execution Law and became effective 30 days after its publication in the Official Gazette.
