The Philippine Embassy in Amman on Sunday celebrated its country's 124th Independence Day, which falls on June 19.

In a speech, delivered on his behalf by his wife Ruby Sakkam, Filipino Ambassador Akmad Sakkam stressed his country's commitment to strengthening relations with Jordan for mutual progress and prosperity.

He said sovereignty, freedom, and democracy are three values cherished by every Filipino. "These values found clear expression recently, when our countrymen held nationwide elections and voted a majority for an elected President."

The envoy expressed appreciation of the "close friendship" with Jordan and willingness to further connections and cooperation in various fields of joint interest.

Abdoun Bridge was lit up in red, yellow, and blue to celebrate the occasion.
