Ammon News - The Lower House of Parliament's Energy and Mineral Resources Committee Tuesday discussed a recent government decision to up fuel prices for June.
In a statement, the committee called on the government to reconsider the fixed tax on oil derivatives in light of the difficult economic conditions that the Kingdom is experiencing, which is affecting citizens.
The committee said it plans to prepare a draft law to submit to the Parliament that establishes a public shareholding company to "bring the sector back to the state" while also fulfilling companies' contractual rights.
The committee also called for removing a newly-imposed tax on renewable energy, in addition to issuing instructions that prohibit operating government vehicles with more than a 2000cc engine.
It also urged the government to encourage the switch to electric vehicles by reconsidering taxes imposed on hybrid cars, implementing time-based electric pricing, and submitting oil purchase bills to the Energy Committee.
