Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, on Tuesday conveyed a message from His Majesty King Abdullah to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

The message is part of consultation and coordination which aim to support the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, especially their right to freedom and an independent and sovereign state on their national soil in accordance with the two-state solution.

In the meeting attended by General Intelligence Department (GID) Director Maj. Gen. Ahmad Husni, Safadi discussed the Israeli escalation in occupied Jerusalem and its holy sites and in the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories, in addition to efforts to stop the escalation and find a real political horizon to stop the deterioration and progress towards a just peace.

President Abbas commended the Kingdom's firm stances in support of Palestine and the rights of the Palestinian people, and efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah to support the Palestinian people and fulfill their right to a free, independent and sovereign state on the basis of the two-state solution.

President Abbas underlined the importance of the historical Hashemite custodianship role in protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

In a joint statement with Minister Hussein al-Sheikh, Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Safadi warned that "the situation is bad, and is heading towards something worse."

"What is happening must stop, and we must immediately return to finding a real political horizon to achieve a just and comprehensive peace," Safadi said.

"The prospects for peace are absent by an Israeli decision, and also by Israeli actions that is pushing the entire region towards an outbreak of conflict," he added.

"Our next moves aim to reach out to all brothers in the region, the United States, the European Union, and all the influential forces in the world with one message: Either we proceed on this path that will only take us towards what is worse, or we resume a real political process that meets all the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people," Safadi said.

He added, "Our brothers in Palestine are ready to engage in a real political process, so let Israel come to this process and enter into serious and effective negotiations in order to resolve the conflict and achieve a just and comprehensive peace on the basis of the two-state solution that has no alternative."

Safadi said, "The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the King's efforts have not stopped in order to support our brothers and to prevent the situation from deteriorating to something worse, and in order to return to achieving peace."

He stressed, "We all want peace, but the peace we want can only begin by stopping all illegal Israeli measures that undermine the two-state solution, and therefore all chances of achieving a comprehensive and just peace."

"The sovereignty over Jerusalem is Palestinian, that custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites is Hashemite, and that the responsibility to protect Jerusalem and its holy sites is a Palestinian, Jordanian, Arab, Islamic and international responsibility in light of the status that Jerusalem represents for us in the Arab and Islamic worlds," Safadi reiterated.

He said: "The world must act, and Israel must realize that its provocative actions and attacks on Al-Aqsa and the consolidation of the occupation will have catastrophic consequences for everyone."

In response to a question, Safadi added, "The attack on Islamic holy sites, and what happened in the occupied Jerusalem is an unprecedented escalation, and have serious repercussions, and a violation of he international law, resolutions of international legitimacy, and gambling with the right of the entire region to live in peace."

"We in Jordan and Palestine want a just, comprehensive and sustainable peace that enables Palestinians to obtain their full rights," he added.

He called for restoring confidence in the feasibility of the political process by immediately returning to serious and effective negotiations simultaneously with stopping all illegal measures that kill the peace process and undermine the chances of achieving peace.

He noted that the Kingdom is working continuously and in permanent coordination with the State of Palestine and the Arab countries, and with the United States and international partners in order to revive peaceful efforts.

"Jordan takes all decisions and takes all the measures that we believe contribute effectively to supporting our Palestinian brothers, and contribute to creating real prospects for achieving a just and comprehensive peace," Safadi pointed out.

For his part, Minister Al-Sheikh expressed his appreciation for Jordan's supportive and solidarity stance with the Palestinian position against the unprecedented and serious Israeli escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories, and in Al-Quds Al-Sharif, specifically the unprecedented violations against Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Al Haram Al Sharif in the history of the Israeli occupation.

He held the Israeli government fully accountable for this escalation and the political cover for extremists who desecrate Christian and Islamic holy sites in the city of Jerusalem.

He announced that the Jordanian and Palestinian sides would start a series of intensive contacts with all concerned parties at the regional and international levels to put an end to this policy and put pressure on the Israeli government and force it to stop these attacks.
