IAEA official: Jordan's uranium project a model for mining ventures in region

Ammon News - A senior International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) official has said that Jordan's flagship uranium mining project is a model for mining initiatives in the region, noting that the project was designed in sequence using a prudent scientific approach.

During a visit Monday to a uranium mining project in central Jordan, implemented by the Jordan Uranium Mining Company, IAEA Deputy Director Hua Liu said he was impressed by the project's progress and its contribution to training Jordanian and Arab professionals.

The IAEA official reaffirmed the agency's continued support for the project through technical assistance.

In turn, the chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission, Khaled Toukan, said that Jordan's reserves of uranium will power its future nuclear power plants, and will make the Kingdom a regional nuclear fuel hub.
