Ammon News - Jordan will, through the al-Rama power station, boost electricity supply to Palestine from 40 to 80 megawatts by July of the current year under a January 2020 agreement, said Saleh Kharabsheh Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources on Monday.

Checking on the workflow at the station, the minister, who was accompanied by Chairman of Palestinian Energy and Natural Resources Authority Thafer Melhem, said the project comes within the framework of Jordan's commitment to meet the electrical energy needs of Palestine to serve the interests of the two countries and peoples, highlighting the two countries' commitment to boosting cooperation in various fields.
Melhem said the authority is looking to diversify energy sources, adding that this agreement will reduce dependency on Israel as a source of energy, achieve energy security, and reduce the electrical deficit to meet the needs of Palestinians.

He stated that the Palestinian energy authority and government are committed to overcoming legal and technical obstacles to enhance the provision of energy in Palestine, which views the breakaway of the Palestinian economy from the occupation as its top economic priority.

This energy project will shift the scales in the sector, he added, highlighting some of the plans to achieve this goal including carrying out regional power interconnection projects and building energy Palestinian-owned power plants.
