Bilbeisi : 11th epidemiological week saw 64% drop in COVID-19 cases

The 11th epidemiological week spanning between March 12 and 18 recorded 9,135 virus cases, compared with 25,502 cases during the tenth week, marking a drop by 64 per cent, adviser at the Prime Ministry for Health Affairs and the official in charge of the COVID-19 pandemic, Adel Bilbeisi, said on Sunday.

Bilbeisi told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that 44 deaths were recorded compared with 77 deaths in the 10th week.

A total of 75,641 PCR tests were conducted in the 11th week, compared with 115,816 tests in the preceding week, marking a 35 per cent decrease.

The number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals stands at 276, down by 34 per cent compared with the tenth week that recorded 421 patients, Bilbeisi added.

The share of COVID-19 positive tests, stood at 12.3 per cent, compared with 22 per cent, during the 10th week, a decrease by nearly 45 per cent, the advisor said.

There are currently 6,449 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan, down from 18,954 cases in the preceding week, marking a 66 per cent drop, Bilbeisi said. As for the rate of cases within the age group 10-17 years, it decreased by 19 per cent compared to 26 per cent during the previous week, and the rate of cases within the age group 6-9 years amounted to 4 per cent, compared to 8 per cent during the previous week.

On the national vaccination program, Bilbeisi said that the number of shots administered during the 11th week stood at 11,460 for the first dose, 17,004 for the second, and 18,298 for the booster jab, totaling 46,762 shots, compared with 65,393 shots in the 10th week, marking a drop of some 29 per cent.

As for the total sum of the first dose, it amounted to 4.723777, at a rate of 74 per cent of the target group, 18 years and above, which constitute 44 per cent of the total population, and the total sum of the second dose amounted to 4,427,430, at a rate of 69 per cent of the target group, 18 years and above, representing 41 per cent of the total population.

As for the total number of vaccine recipients within the age group 12-17 years, the first dose amounted to 218,318 people, and the second dose amounted to 170,252, while the vaccine recipients within the age group of 5-11 years old amounted to 145 people for the first dose, and 36 people for the second dose.
