The Cabinet Sunday entrusted competent ministers to do whatever is necessary to ensure the market prices are "stable" and to stop monopoly and violations in the market.
In a session at the Prime Ministry, the Cabinet discussed the measures taken by ministries and oversight agencies in the market and means to ensure goods and staples are sold at fair prices.
The Cabinet said that certain products will be allowed to be imported into the country, while some will be sold at fixed prices as per the law regulating each sector.
Ministers gave presentations on the mechanisms whereby price hikes could be alleviated, especially crops that have been impacted by frost waves, dairies and construction materials.
The Cabinet decided to extend an order offering stimulus packages and slashing fees on imported goods which would stabilise the market prices. It was due to finish this March 31.
The Cabinet approved the recommendations of the Committee to Consider Claims between taxpayers and/or violators and the Income and Sales Tax Department to settle six cases of taxpayers.
